After replacing James Tavernier on Thursday, Leon Balogun made his first start on the right of Rangers’ defence on Sunday as Steven Gerrard’s side moved a step closer to Scottish Premiership glory at Ibrox.
Balogun is no stranger to playing at right-back. However, this week has seen the first two occasions the 32-year-old has featured in the role for Rangers.

And based on his latest display, there is every reason to believe that Balogun is more than capable of providing cover for Tavernier moving forward.
Rangers stormed to a 4-1 win over Dundee United at Ibrox. A number of players were outstanding in the victory.

But Balogun’s statistics would suggest that he staked one of the strongest claims for the man of the match award.
As shown by Whoscored.com, he completed 52 successful passes and four key passes. He topped the tallies in both areas.
He was also the best-performing player from either side for successful dribbles and aerial duels won.
The former Brighton man also made two clearances and two interceptions for the Gers.
It was a remarkable performance from the Nigeria international. And of course, he provided the assist for Ryan Kent’s goal in the victory.
Balogun had arguably already shown enough to suggest that signing him in the summer was a fantastic piece of business.
And perhaps his latest display further hints bringing him in will ultimately be looked back upon as a masterstroke.
