Four interceptions, 93% pass rate: Tottenham star nearly perfect against West Ham
Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday afternoon but Eric Dier’s form continues to improve; his stats suggesting he was nearly perfect.
Dier, 27, has endured a couple of tricky seasons. The England international was dropped, during Mauricio Pochettino’s latter stages in charge.
In and out of the side during the Jose Mourinho era, Dier is becoming a mainstay of the Spurs team since the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo.
The 45-time England ace has clocked up eight starts from nine Premier League games, coming on in the other match for the last 12 minutes.
Michail Antonio, another player hopeful of an England chance in November, scored the only goal of the game at the London Stadium.
Dier, though, was solid throughout the game alongside Cristian Romero in what was a pretty equal clash. Dier’s stats suggest he had an excellent game.
Completing 94 of 101 passes, a 93% success rate, three clearances and four interceptions – Dier earned Tottenham’s best WhoScored rating at 7.22.
Could Dier be about to save Tottenham a lot of money?
Tottenham brought in a big-money defender in the form of Romero. A huge signing, considering he was last season’s Serie A defender of the season.
But alongside him, it was up for debate. Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon or Japhet Tanganga – or a new signing? Some wanted the latter.
But Dier’s form is impressive of late and it might just save Tottenham, Nuno and Fabio Paratici being tempted to replace the £72k-a-week star (Spotrac).
