Leeds United are currently looking short in the striking position. It comes after Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to have a streamlined squad backfired slightly with the knee injury suffered by Patrick Bamford.

With Kemar Roofe out with a knock at the weekend, youngsters Tyler Roberts, Jamie Clarke and Ryan Edmondson all received call-ups.

But Leeds have another young striker currently out on loan they might have wished they kept hold of now.

Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa both clearly felt it was in the best interest of young forward Mallik Wilks to play out on loan this season. They allowed the young striker to join Doncaster Rovers for the season in order for regular first-team football.

They could certainly do with him now, considering the form he is in.

Wilks scored again at the weekend. The 19-year-old netted in a 4-1 win over Walsall for his loan side. He also provided an assist for James Coppinger in his best performance in a Doncaster shirt so far.

It takes his tally for the League One club to four goals and two assists in 10 games.

Leeds will no doubt be pleased he is putting in such impressive displays for his loan club. However, they will also be aware that he could have been a real help for them at this tricky period.
