Tottenham Hotspur were recently linked with a surprise move for West Brom attacker Oliver Burke. According to The Sun on Sunday (14/10/18; pg 61), West Brom are willing to move him on – with Spurs and Newcastle United mentioned.

The news comes as a shock due to his failures at his last two clubs. He has failed to be a hit at West Brom following his reported £15 million move from RB Leipzig.

He also struggled after joining the German side from Nottingham Forest.

So hearing that Tottenham were keen certainly came as a shock to many.

However, he has shown some form recently which suggests Tottenham might be right to have an eye on him. He scored for the West Brom under-21s yesterday evening. He netted in a 3-0 win over Rushall Olympic in the Birmingham Senior Cup. Add that to his recent brace against Fulham’s under 23 side and the one he bagged v Stoke’s youngsters and his tally is at four goals in four games.

The fact is, his EFL cup form was good for West Brom as well. He scored one and bagged an assist in the wins over Luton Town and Mansfield Town. He sat on the bench as the Baggies were knocked out by Crystal Palace.

The fact is, at just 21-years-old, teams have paid a combined total of £28 million to sign the player. His power, pace and poise cannot be taught, with his lethal natural talent clear for all to see.

His performances when breaking through at Forest had plenty of teams interested so Tottenham are perhaps right in just seeing how this story develops.

It could be they pull off something of a masterstroke.
