Liverpool are being linked with a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz. As reported by The Express earlier this month, Liverpool are open to a move for the talented youngster, although his apparent asking price of €100 million (£92m) could certainly be a stumbling block.
But the interest that Liverpool have in Havertz should come as absolutely no shock. In fact, Liverpool’s interest in bringing Havertz to the club reportedly stems right back to 2017.
The Liverpool Echo reported in 2017 that Liverpool were first alerted to Havertz’s excellent ability during a game for Germany’s under-19s. The report claimed Liverpool scouts were in attendance as Germany’s youngsters defeated Belarus 5-1 in a European under-19 Championships qualifier in Poland.

Havertz was the undoubted star of the show, scoring four goals and setting up the other in a German rout.
Liverpool would have come away from that performance with Havertz on the brain and Jurgen Klopp is also believed to be a big fan of his talented countryman.
Making a deal happen in the summer may depend on Liverpool’s hopes of signing other targets, such as Timo Werner of RB Leipzig. But Havertz will undoubtedly remain at the forefront of the Liverpool scouting department going forward.
