Michael Keane – Burnley
The former Manchester United trainee, now plying his trade at Burnley, will have an added bonus over any other candidate in this list. For Liverpool, he will boast homegrown status as a UK born and bred player, an important factor in European competition.
Regardless of that, Keane has shown this season that he has the quality to play in the Premier League and was a key fixture in the Clarets’ defence under Sean Dyche, as his side kept a surprisingly impressive record in terms goals conceded. He even earned his first England cap as a reward for that fine form.
However, with just one season in the Premier League, there will be doubts over whether or not Keane would represent a high quality addition or potential upgrade to the Liverpool defence. Dejan Lovren, for example, is unlikely to be happy about being forced out of the team by a 24-year-old with only one season of regular top flight football.
