Leeds United have confirmed the signature of Kiko Casilla. The Spaniard arrived in Leeds yesterday and underwent his medical at the club, signing on the dotted line in the early evening. The announcement was made this morning and the former Real Madrid player’s arrival is fantastic business from Leeds.

The Whites have needed a new goalkeeper ever since Jamal Blackman suffered a leg break and had his loan move from Chelsea cut short.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who has been inconsistent at times this season, will now have to battle and learn from the 31-year-old stopper.

The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international has had some impressive moments this season but Leeds fans have felt for a while that he is the weak link for Leeds.

But working with Casilla, who came through the system at Real Madrid and played for numerous years in La Liga with Espanyol, will give Peacock-Farrell every chance of becoming a future Leeds star.

However, the length of the Casilla deal suggests otherwise. Considering his age and the fact he only had 18 months left on his Real deal, many expected Casilla to sign on just an 18-month or perhaps two-year deal.

That is not the case. The Spaniard has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Leeds. That keeps him at the club until 2023. Peacock-Farrell now looks set for an extended spell as the number two at Leeds.

If Casilla remains number one for the duration of his contract, the Northern Ireland star will be sitting on the bench for a long time to come. This deal could now be damning for Peacock-Farrell’s Leeds future.
