Former Tottenham goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt does not think Hugo Lloris should be dropped by Mauricio Pochettino after his awful error against Liverpool on Sunday, as per TalkSport.

Lloris has had a shaky season and off-field controversy to boot and that came to a head again at Anfield, when he dropped Mo Salah’s tame header onto Toby Alderweireld to cost his side the game.

But Thorstvedt was bullish in his defence of Lloris, and said: “I’m 100 per cent sure that Hugo Lloris needs to stay in goal. He’s the captain, he’s a World Cup-winning captain with France.

“Two seasons ago, he was by far the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. It’s been difficult to maintain that incredibly high standard, but he’s still a really good goalie.”

Thorstvedt knows what it takes to play between the sticks for Spurs, having done so for seven seasons, but he’s wide of the mark on his one.

Lloris has never been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League – David de Gea has had that title sewn up since 2013/14 – and this season, he has been atrocious.

He had aberrations in the Champions League against Barcelona and PSV, as well as being at fault for Kieran Trippier’s own goal against Chelsea.

Lloris has somehow taken the shine off coming back to Spurs as a World Cup winning captain, with his erratic form and off-field, drink-driving controversy and Paulo Gazzaniga has earned his spot in the side.
