The BBC reported today that Jack Ross has been sacked as manager of League 1 outfit Sunderland, as they sit sixth in the table.
Ross was trying to get the Black Cats out of the third tier at the second time of asking following last season’s defeat in the dying stages of the play-off final at Wembley.
And former Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has already ruled himself out of a return to the Stadium of Light, saying on TalkSport: “Unfortunately I’ll have to say no to that, there’s no chance. I loved my time there but I don’t think it’s right to go back.”

TBR’s View – Allardyce’s 2016 rescue mission was impressive but Sunderland need something different now
Sunderland need an attacking style of play that can win games on a consistent basis and Allardyce would deliver neither.
He was great for uniting the club and making them hard to beat when they were in a Premier League relegation battle in 2016 but the Black Cats need younger blood now.
Who that will be remains to be seen but another season without promotion will not be seen as acceptable, and rightly so.
Allardyce will be watching on from his comfortable punditry role as the game goes in a more progressive direction without him.
