Former Rangers captain Ferguson explains one way former club can get Kent

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson believes Rangers would have to cash in on Alfredo Morelos if they want Ryan Kent to return to Ibrox.

The club received a blow on Monday, with reports (BBC Sport) claiming Liverpool would not permit the 22-year-old another loan move.

Kent has been to Coventry City, Barnsley, Freiburg and the Gers so far in his career, and Jurgen Klopp has said the youngster is at an age now where he needs to be ‘settled’.

Kent will reportedly set teams back £8 million to sign this summer, which would make a permanent switch to Rangers very difficult.

But Ferguson reckons it could be possible if they sell Colombian hitman Morelos.

The current manager of Blackpool told PLZ Soccer: “The price being banded about is £10m and I really don’t think Rangers can afford that if I’m being honest.

“They would need to maybe get rid of a Morelos to get that sort of money in.

“So Rangers will be really disappointed because, for me, last year he was the difference for Rangers in a lot of the big games.”

TBR’s view

With 29 goals last season, Rangers would be worse off without Morelos even if it meant Kent could return.

He is a huge player for the Light Blues, so a huge offer would have to come in to tempt them to sell.

Kent was superb for the Gers last term, but the club may simply have to put their faith in their new wide players Sheyi Ojo, Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart and Jordan Jones to do the business.

If Gerrard wants to push Celtic harder in the title race in 2019/20, Morelos cannot be sold.
