Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb believes that players will still want to join Manchester United ahead of Newcastle United this summer.
Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is expected to take over the reins at Old Trafford and be the latest manager tasked with rebuilding a football club that Gary Neville has described as “broken”.
The Red Devils’ trophy drought has extended to five years and there is every chance they will miss out on Europe altogether.

Newcastle on the other hand will be heading into the summer transfer window full of optimism following the club’s lucrative takeover, the appointment of Eddie Howe and retaining their top-flight status.
PIF will likely try and make another statement signing or two that will improve Howe’s squad and will enable them to challenge for a top half finish next season.
But despite being the world’s richest club and having the lofty ambitions of challenging for big trophies, Babb believes that players will still choose Manchester United over Newcastle this summer.

When asked whether players will pick Newcastle or United, Babb told Sky Sports: “I don’t think that’s a valid question.
“No offence to the Newcastle fans, but if it’s a choice between Newcastle and Manchester United, with United’s rebuilding project in the plans, you’d probably head to Old Trafford.
“But don’t get me wrong, Newcastle is an attractive proposition. The package they can offer players will be right up there with the top teams and the fanbase is fantastic.
“It’s still an attractive option to have for players but out of the two you’d certainly go to Old Trafford.”
Manchester United will be hoping that ten Hag is the man to restore the club to its former glory, but Newcastle will fancy their chances of closing the gap on United this summer.
