Roy Keane’s punditry appearance on Sky Sports during Wednesday’s Manchester derby got football fans talking up and down the country.
He was searingly honest about the plight of one of his former clubs, berating the players for their lack of commitment and fearing the worst for the future at Old Trafford.
But Keane is of course employed by another club he used to represent as a player – Nottingham Forest – as assistant manager to Martin O’Neill.
And another former Forest man Stan Collymore fears that Keane’s honesty and bluntness may put off players from coming to the City Ground.

As per the Sunday People, page 51, 28/04, Collymore said: “I love Roy Keane and I agree with a lot of what he has to say. But I’m not sure it’s edifying to hear an active coach coating other players on TV.
“We all want honesty but other pundits bring that and if I was thinking about joining Nottingham Forest this summer than I might just wonder if doing so would be the right decision.”
That’s actually a fair point from Collymore. As much as Keane may hate the fact that the modern game has changed, the fact is that it has and he needs to help attract those very 2019 footballers to the City Ground.
For some, working with Keane may be a lure, but similarly, they may decide that they can do without the constant aggression and stinging criticism that the Irishman brings to every role he takes on.
