Former Newcastle United and Sunderland hitman Michael Chopra has given his forthright views on Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce to TalkSport.
Bruce looks all set to become the Magpies’ new manager after standing down at Sheffield Wednesday but Chopra has not held back about the situation.
He said: “What [Ashley]’s done to that football club is a disgrace. The fans are putting their foot down, they’ve had enough. It’s like a disease, every year it’s getting worse and worse.
“I don’t think he wants to (sell). They’ve gone from Rafa Benitez, a world class manager to Steve Bruce, who is a mediocre Championship manager now, not good enough for the Premier League any more.”

Chopra is essentially saying what so many of the Newcastle fans have been thinking this summer, and what not enough prominent faces within the media have been willing to say.
He also mentions bringing a buyer to Lee Charnley who was willing to buy the club, but he couldn’t get a mandate from him to actually offload it.
That isn’t likely to inspire many supporters that things are set to change any time soon, but it is a small refreshing blessing that there are some former pros who are willing to call out the Ashley regime.
