Former Birmingham and Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant has praised current Blues midfielder Jude Bellingham, who is an Anfield target according to 90Min.
Pennant called Bellingham – who has enjoyed a breakthrough season this year – a young Steven Gerrard but believes Bellingham will eventually move to Old Trafford.
He told TalkSport: “He’s a fantastic player. He throws himself about, he can get up and down the pitch, he can score goals and assist goals, he’s got trickery. He’s a fantastic young player.
“He reminds me of a young Steven Gerrard. At 16 years of age he’s doing this week in, week out in the Championship. He is a really special talent. What he can achieve in his career is frightening.”
TBR’s View – Bellingham would be wise to choose Liverpool
The report says Manchester United are also keen on the teenager as they look to reshape their squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United are a massive club but they are also a mess right now, whereas Liverpool are going along swimmingly and are now starting to bring through some really talented young players.
Bellingham would not be rushed through by the Reds either, given the strength they have in their side, and could perhaps go back to Birmingham on loan to continue to develop.
Whereas United would rush him in, hoping he can be the man who links it all together, which is a huge responsibility for a teenager to bear at a club where established world-class players have been eaten alive in recent seasons.
