Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has heaped praise on current Reds ace Fabinho after a superb debut season at Anfield.
The Brazilian has established himself as one of the team’s most important players, after initially having to bide his time following his £44 million move from AS Monaco (The Daily Mail).

Fabinho ended up making 41 appearances for the club, and has seemingly nailed down the defensive midfield role.
His competence in the position has allowed captain Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita more freedom to attack, and it’s a system that seems to work very well.
One man who has been very impressed with the 25-year-old’s impact, is club legend Alonso.

He told lfc.com: “I think that we could have similarities in terms of the position, in terms of how we want to connect with the players around, how he makes the players around him better players, making them play easier and play better.
“Taking many small, correct decisions is part of being a midfielder and he does it very well.”
Alonso then heaped praise on the star’s technical and physical abilities, as well as his general understanding of the game.
TBR’s view
It’s high praise indeed from Alonso, who is considered one of the club’s greatest ever midfielders.

The silky Spaniard made the game look easy with his elegant style, and Fabinho will surely be looking to get somewhere close to his level during his time on Merseyside.
His passing is not as good as Alonso’s yet but is much better than people give him credit for, and of course the defensive side to his game is very strong.
