Former Leeds United youngster Oliver Sarkic has been discussing the transfer of Kemar Roofe to Anderlecht with the Belgian press this week.
Sarkic, who was allowed to leave Leeds United to join Burton Albion on a free transfer this summer, came through the youth ranks at Anderlecht. So he was a natural person to seek out for an opinion on Anderlecht’s new signing.
The Belgian giants spent a fee reported by the Yorkshire Post to be in the region of £7 million earlier this month to sign Roofe.
Speaking to Sport/Voetbalmagazine, Sarkic is of the opinion that Roofe is a great addition.
“If he was on the field, he would not stop walking for a second. He really crashed into the team.
“He was just extremely efficient – you rarely saw him perform an unnecessary pass and there was an idea behind everything he did. In fact, Roofe does not have one feature with which he attracts attention, but he controls all game elements. He is agile, can keep up with a ball and has great jumping power.
“It doesn’t all look spectacular, but sometimes he did things that the audience was watching with an open mouth. That’s why he was so loved by the fans.”
Once again, Sarkic’s views are in line with the vast majority of those who have spoken about Roofe since his Leeds exit.
Indeed, not many Leeds fans would argue with that sentiment either, especially when it comes to the hard work Roofe put in on the pitch.
Leeds fans did not want to lose Roofe this summer but with his contract entering its final year, it was clear that the Whites had to make a tough decision.
Not many Leeds fans will begrudge Roofe the success that Sarkic is predicting for him in Brussels.
