Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White this summer. As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Marcelo Bielsa is a long time fan of the player and Leeds could seek a loan deal this summer.
Leeds have faced White before, as he starred for Newport County in a famous FA Cup victory against the Whites.
Last season, White started the season back at Brighton after his loan spell at Newport. But with first-team football sparse, he headed to Peterborough United in the January transfer window. At the time, the Posh were actually managed by former Leeds United gaffer Steve Evans.
As he told the official Peterborough United website, he expressed how much he had been impressed with the defender’s loan spell in South Wales.
“I first became aware of Ben when he joined Newport County on-loan last season. I watched him on a number of occasions and he was outstanding in the games that I saw…
“We are delighted to land him. The kid had numerous options to come into the level we are at and we are thrilled to bring him to the club…”
Unfortunately for Evans, he did not get to work with White for long. The Scot was sacked by Peterborough later the same month.
Of course, the opinion of Evans is not always held in the highest of esteems by the Leeds United fanbase. The Massimo Cellino appointed boss was not universally popular among Leeds fans so hearing his high praise for White might put some fans off.
However, the YEP seem to suggest that Bielsa is a big fan. If the Argentine wants him, then no doubt White has something to offer.
