Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has called for Marcelo Bielsa to use his January signings as a Plan B, on TalkSport.
Mills says it is frustrating for Whites fans to watch their side consistently fail to be clinical and bemoaned the fact neither man played against Wigan last weekend, when Leeds went down 1-0.
He said: “They’ve brought in two forward players. One wasn’t on the bench (vs Wigan), Poveda was. Bielsa didn’t put them on. Leeds dominated the game, but they lack a clinical edge.
“The frustrations at Leeds are, you brought in two players. How fit do you need to be to play 15, 20 minutes at the end of a game? You get through on adrenaline. The concern for Leeds fans is there is no Plan B, he’s not going to use these players he’s brought in.”
TBR’s View – Bielsa will always do things his way
For 99 per cent of managers, what Sky Sports pundit Mills says would be accurate. New, attacking signings would be thrust into the fray, especially with the team 1-0 down at home in a crucial game.
But Marcelo Bielsa will never waver from his insistence that players take the time to get to know his gameplan, which is complex and refined.
That insistence on his principles is a strength for most of the time and a huge part of the reason why Leeds are currently in the promotion spots.
But perhaps sometimes the simple option, putting an extra frontman on, can do the trick too. Bielsa will never compromise on his principles, so if Leeds are to get up, it will be completely on his terms.
That includes making the new-boys wait as long as it takes to get up to speed.
