Former Hibs player Jamie Insall calls out Celtic preferential treatment

Former Hibernian midfielder Jamie Insall has criticised Celtic for always being ‘protected’ after they claimed a 1-1 draw with his former club at the weekend.

Celtic battled to a 1-1 draw with Paul Heckingbottom’s men but the Edinburgh club were not happy with the performance of referee Kevin Clancy.

They felt French midfielder Olivier Ntcham deserved to see red after an altercation with Josh Vela in the first-half.

Insall clearly agrees. The 27-year-old spent nearly two years at Hibs before receiving a drug ban in 2017. He has since returned to the sport and plays his football with Welsh side Connah’s Quay Nomads.

But he clearly has a lot of admiration for his former team and called out for Celtic for what he perceives as preferential treatment.

TBR’s View

There was certainly a case for Ntcham to see red yesterday and the age-old tale of Celtic being favoured by referees has quickly returned.

But it could also be that when mistakes are made in Celtic’s favour they are simply more high-profile, owing to Celtic’s position as Scotland’s premier club.

Of course, Celtic fans might feel Ntcham got away with one today but there will be numerous incidents where the Bhoys have been let down by officials.

At the end of the season, they usually even out and Celtic will be quick to point out the next time a referee makes a mistake against them.
