Back in the summer of 2017, Everton were linked with a big money move for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose.
The Liverpool Echo reported the Toffees were close to arranging a fee of £28 million for the forward, yet the transfer failed to materialise.
Given Willian Jose’s average form to start the 2018/19 campaign, it appears Everton made the correct decision to avoid splashing the cash on the striker.
The Brazilian has scored just three goals in nine league appearances for Sociedad this term, as the Basque club currently sit in tenth position in La Liga.

Willian Jose has missed one game through injury, and although three goals to date is not the worst return, it is clear the striker is not worth the multi-million pound price-tag that was rumoured back in 2017.
Everton have netted 20 Premier League goals to date this campaign, with only five other clubs scoring more in the league. Goals have not necessarily been the Toffees’ biggest problem area, adding further weight to the argument against signing Willian Jose.
In all, the indifferent form of Willian Jose reveals Everton’s decision to decide against breaking the bank to purchase the Brazilian striker was a justified one back in 2017.
