Everton’s former manager Marco Silva might have his next managerial appointment lined up, and it is far away from Goodison Park.
The Portuguese boss was sacked by Everton earlier this season after a string of uninspiring performances and results from the Toffees. Since then, Silva has kept a low-profile and has not yet returned to coaching. However, that could be about to change.
As reported by O Globo in Brazil, Marco Silva could be an option for Flamengo should the club lose their coveted manager Jorge Jesus.
The fellow Portuguese is renegotiating his current contract at the Brazilian club, where he has worked wonders since leaving Europe.
However, given the current global situation and the impact on finances at the Brazilian club, Jesus is proving difficult to tie down.
It is suggested the club currently have no plan B, but that the former Everton boss is being considered.
It would be a mirror image of incidents at Sporting Lisbon between 2014 and 2015, when Jesus replaced Silva as manager at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Jesus was also linked with taking over from Silva in November. As reported by The Telegraph, the Portuguese was on a shortlist of potential options before Carlo Ancelotti’s availability became clear.
Now it seems like Silva could finally replace his elder statesmen, should Flamengo fail to come up with an adequate package to keep him.
After his stints at Hull City, Watford and Everton a move 5,000 miles away to Brazil might just be what Silva needs to get his reputation back on track.
