Liverpool’s newest recruit Takumi Minamino has received gigantic praise from one of his former coaches, something that should delight Reds supporters.
Rene Maric is currently an assistant at German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach and is regarded as an exciting young coach in the game.
He previously worked as an assistant for two years at Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and had the experience of working alongside Liverpool’s new signing.
Liverpool confirmed (official website) on Thursday that they have reached an agreement for Salzburg attacker Minamino, which will officially be completed when the transfer window opens on 1 January.
The 24-year-old passed a medical and agreed personal terms ahead of his switch to the Premier League.
Maric has given a glowing reference on social media of the Japan international and feels he deserves his big move to England.
“He deserves this so much. Takumi Minamino is an amazing player, very smart & fundamentally sound, has a great personality & is a coach‘s dream. Team player, very coachable. Quality signing. All the best & good luck, congratulations to you and Liverpool,” Maric wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Liverpool fans were aware of skilful attacker Minamino after coming up against him twice in the Champions League group stages, with his volley against them at Anfield a real standout moment.
He’s got the flexibility to play anywhere along the forward line and will strengthen the Reds squad, while this season he’s scored nine goals and supplied 11 assists in 22 games across all competitions for Salzburg.
Minamino’s former coach has listed off a load of traits that will stand him in good stead for a move to Liverpool and it’s important he settles quickly into a close-knit group.
It looks like he could be a real shrewd January addition from Jurgen Klopp and he will have a role to play in trying to get over the line for the Premier League title.
