Hertha Berlin defender Karim Rekik is delighted with the club’s signing of Dedryck Boyata, as he thinks the 28-year-old is ‘world class’.

Boyata will soon join up with his new teammates ready to embark on a new chapter in the Bundesliga.

One man who already knows Boyata very well is central defender Rekik, who played with Boyata at Manchester City.

The Dutch ace hailed the club’s acquisition of Boyata. He said, as quoted by The Scottish Sun: “Dedryck is a magnificent signing for us. He is now a world class defender.

“He’s quick and reads the game very well. He’s done really well at Celtic since he left Manchester City and broken into the Belgium squad.

TBR’s view

It’s a huge claim from Rekik and not one that will be shared by Celtic supporters.

Boyata on his day can be a great defender, but he can not be put into the same bracket as the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Diego Godin, Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Giorgio Chiellini who are arguably all world-class.

Rekik evidently has a great friendship with Boyata that was born at Manchester City.

Boyata certainly played his part in Celtic’s amazing Treble Treble feat, but he won’t be missed by the majority after allegedly downing tools at the start of the season.
