Former Arsenal midfielder Merson tips Tottenham to pip Chelsea into third spot

Paul Merson has tipped Tottenham to beat Chelsea to third place in the Premier League after the final round of matches this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson has given his view on the last weekend of the campaign and reckons Chelsea will drop points away against Leicester while Tottenham continue their euphoric week by beating Everton.

Merson said: “[Chelsea] have got to win this game, you want to be finishing third. They’ve got to beat Leicester, it’s quite a big game for Chelsea to finish third, but it’s a hard game and I think Leicester will get something with how they’ve been playing. 2-2.

“A good Everton team here, who have turned a corner but they were getting beaten at Newcastle and Fulham a few weeks ago. The players probably won’t be thinking of this game but you want to get third. Everton aren’t as good on the road as they have been at home so I think Spurs will sneak it. 2-1.”

Tottenham have actually been poor in the league lately while Chelsea have just about done enough to get into the top and both sides are playing very handy opponents.

Leicester showed against Manchester City on Monday how good they are these days and they will want to finish the season with a flourish.

Meanwhile, Spurs may well make changes after a draining midweek – it’s just whether they can carry on riding the crest of a wave on Sunday.
