Former Arsenal manager George Graham offers verdict on Unai Emery

Former Arsenal manager George Graham has praised current Gunners boss Unai Emery, stating that he likes his decisiveness and passion for the club.

As per the Daily Mail, Graham also likes the way Emery doesn’t mess around in substituting Mesut Ozil, with the German international still struggling to make a splash this season.

He said: “Emery isn’t afraid to make decisions. If he thinks Mesut Ozil should come off, he’s off. I like that, it’s the job. I sold Charlie Nicholas who had done his stretch. If the team is struggling, make a decision and if you upset anyone, so what?

“I’m told the passion is back at the training ground, which is good. But you do need quality as well. There’s not many in the current Arsenal team I’d have taken. The forward line is clearly the strongest part of their team.”

TBR’s View – Emery would likely have liked to have sold Ozil if wages weren’t such an issue

Manchester United, Arsenal’s opponents tonight, took the decision to loan former Gunner Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan this summer, contributing part of his wages in the process.

If Arsenal had been prepared to take a similar financial hit on Ozil, it’s likely that the German would not be at the club any more.

Emery has kept him out of the side for much of the season, but explaining it to the fans has not always been clear. Is he rested or dropped?

Either way, it might perhaps hearten Gunners who want the old passion, heart and standards of their club back that Graham rates Emery.
