Forgotten Watford man Obbi Oulare scores first goal for Standard Liege

In the summer, Watford made it clear that the Belgian striker Obbi Oulare was no longer needed. He was not handed a squad number by the Hornets and his time at Watford seemed to be over.

Watford snapped up the 6ft 4 ins striker from Club Brugge in 2015 for a reported £5 million fee, as reported by Sky Sports. He was being compared to fellow Belgian striker Christian Benteke, but swiftly became a forgotten man at Vicarage Road.

Loan spells at Zulte Waregem, Willem II, and Royal Antwerp had their ups and downs but Oulare clearly has no future at Watford.

In his three seasons as a Hornet, he has played just three times and failed to score, so it was no surprise to see he was not expected to play at Vicarage Road in 2018-19.

This season he did eventually find a new club. He joined his former youth club Standard Liege on loan in August. However, he had to wait for an impact. The striker underwent surgery on a long-standing hip problem in the summer and is now back in action.

But yesterday he had a day to remember. After starting his first game for the club this season he went on to score. Oulare played the full 90 minutes and scored what proved to be the equaliser in the 59th minute.

Watford fans have probably written the striker off. But now he is back fit and scoring on his first start, perhaps he can still force a Watford career after all.
