In the summer of 2015, Newcastle United snapped up the talented forward Ivan Toney from Northampton Town. The youngster had shown good form at Sixfields and Newcastle were taking a punt on a young talent. He cost just £250,000 and the hope was he could go on to be a regular for the Magpies.
However, it never really happened for him at St James’ Park. In his three years at Newcastle, he made just two first-team appearances. Loan spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Wigan and two spells with Scunthorpe followed before he left for good this summer.
After impressive form at Glanford Park toward the end of last season, Peterborough United decided to make a move for the player.

The results have been instantaneous. Toney scored his first goal for the club at the weekend, in a 3-2 win over Southend United. But his form until now warrants recognition.
Toney has been mostly used as an impact substitute for Steve Evans’ side. But he has been making quite the impact. In six substitute appearances, he has one goal and two assists, helping the Posh to an unbeaten start to the season.
He faces a tough challenge forcing Jason Cummings and Matt Godden from the starting XI. But even if he carries on his super-sub form, Toney will be far more popular at London Road then he ever was at Newcastle.
