Leeds United certainly have their fair share of ‘forgotten’ players. One of those players is Spanish attacker Adrian Balboa.
Balboa arrived at Leeds on a free transfer in July 2017 from UD Unificacion. After one year with the under-23s and not threatening the first-team, he was loaned out to Terrassa in August 2018. He then spent the second half of last season at FC Vilafranca.
After returning to Leeds United in the summer, he headed to Lorca in Spain’s fourth-tier. There was confusion at the time whether the deal was in fact a loan or a permanent free transfer, but Leeds Live seems to suggest it remains a loan deal.
It has been a tough time for Balboa at his current club. He joined to work with Uruguayan legend Walter Pandiani, who he previously played for at CD Masnou.
But Pandiani is no longer with Lorca. He stepped down in December due to ‘discrepancies’ with the club president, as reported by La Opinion de Murcia.
The club later made international news when it emerged fans could pick the team on a mobile app, as reported by AS.
That came not long after Balboa had recovered from a knee injury that required surgery in October.
But at the weekend, he finally had a reason to celebrate. Balboa scored his first goal for the club, as Lorca defeated Cartagena B in Spain’s fourth-tier. He netted the winning goal in a 2-1 win.
It is hardly going to have Leeds fans excited about an eventual first-team run for the forward. His time at the club appears over and, according to some sources, including transfermarkt, the deal at Lorca was a permanent one anyway.
But hopefully the 21-year-old can carve out a successful career for himself after his brief time at Thorp Arch.
