Aston Villa youngster Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has had a tough loan spell at Tranmere Rovers so far. But at the weekend it appeared to kick into gear with a fantastic hat-trick against MK Dons.

As quoted by the official Tranmere website, Micky Mellon sang the praises of the player after this potentially important performance.

“We haven’t quite been able to give him his opportunity. We wanted to give other people a longer go at it, but we were able to do that today, and we have a striker scoring goals for us and he has come in and he has been terrific.

“He has deserved his opportunity, he has been great since he came here, and I’m really, really pleased for him that he took it.

“He is a great lad. We have been using him in wide areas, but we had to try and do something different, and he has gone and got a hat-trick, so full credit to him.”

TBR’s View

This was certainly a big performance for the talented striker. He has been used as a wide player on numerous occasions by the League One side so far this season and it is clearly not his preferred role.

Hepburn-Murphy, who made his debut for Aston Villa aged just 16, is clearly a batter central striker and went some way toward proving that point in Milton Keynes on Saturday.

Aston Villa fans will just hope this is the catalyst for a string of good results for a player whose talents have been forgotten for some time.
