‘Forget Zaha’, ‘instead of Willian’: Some Arsenal fans want 24-year-old ‘top player’, shone last night

A number of Arsenal fans have urged the Gunners board to consider making a move for Said Benrahma following his display in Wednesday night’s Championship playoff semi-final.

The 24-year-old has been a revelation for Brentford since signing from Nice in 2018 for a reported £1.5million fee.

To date, Benrahma has claimed 28 goals and 27 assists from 90 competitive Bees appearances, including 17 goals and 10 assists in the Championship this season.

The Algeria international’s exploits this season kept Brentford challenging for automatic promotion alongside Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.

Though Leeds and West Brom took the top two spots, the Bees are now well placed to join them in the Premier League next season after reaching the playoff final.

After Ollie Watkins levelled the tie against Swansea early on, Benrahma provided the assist for Emiliano Marcondes to head home the hosts’ second on the night.

Bryan Mbeumo then scored to give the Swans a mountain to climb, though Pontus Jansson’s error allowed Rhian Brewster to score on 78 minutes for a nervy finish.

In the end, Brentford won 3-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate, booking a trip to Wembley where they will face either Fulham or Cardiff for a place in the top flight.

Though the £30million-rated attacker (ESPN) has been heavily linked with Chelsea, some Arsenal fans want the Gunners to swoop in and bring him to North London rather than West London.

Below is some of the Arsenal fan social media reaction to Benrahma’s display:
