Alexis Mac Allister is an international teammate of his idol Lionel Messi, but he has named Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player he has ever faced in the Premier League.
Mac Allister signed for Brighton in 2016 from Argentinos Juniors as a complete unknown, making 112 appearances for the Seagulls over three years before earning a £35m move to Liverpool in 2019.
Since moving to Anfield, Mac Allister has won the Premier League and Carabao Cup, while adding the Copa America to his World Cup medal from 2018.

He is a loyal teammate of Messi at international level, however Mac Allister still showed his appreciation of Cristiano Ronaldo – even at a turbulent time of the former Manchester United winger’s career.
Alexis Mac Allister gives Cristiano Ronaldo answer to ‘best player’ question
Speaking on a TNT Sports feature where a Liverpool fan asked him questions, Alexis Mac Allister was asked to name the best player he has ever played against in the Premier League.
In response, Mac Allister said: “Cristiano Ronaldo. When I was at Brighton, we played against Man United and he’s a really, really good player.”
“It’s amazing to see him live. Yeah, he’s someone that you really respect.”
Mac Allister played in three games against Ronaldo, including two wins for Brighton and one defeat. Mac Allister in fact scored an own goal in one victory, while he was booked in another game that saw Ronaldo score in a 2-0 win for United.
Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United on a free transfer after Erik Ten Hag fall out
Ronaldo’s second spell at United came after his exit from Juventus in 2021, but he would only last a year back at Old Trafford following a public fall-out with new manager Erik Ten Hag.

He was released by United in 2022 after refusing to come on as a substitute in a game against Tottenham, before conducting an interview with Piers Morgan, in which he criticised the club and Ten Hag.
In that interview, he said United had shown ‘no evolution’ since he was previously at the club, and said he had ‘no respect’ for Ten Hag. He added he felt ‘betrayed’ by United.
After his contract was mutually terminated, Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he has scored 97 goals with 20 assists in 110 appearances, taking his career club tally to 798 goals.
