Footy Views: Thoughts from the Weekend
Another weekend of football has passed and so has deadline day. What can we gather from the last few days?
Could Manchester United miss out on Champions League football?
In their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, Manchester United looked like a very average outfit. Robin Van Persie was out of sorts and so was the rest of the side. If the Dutchman doesn’t perform Manchester United are going to struggle. After dealing poorly in the market by only bringing in Fellaini, missing out on the top four could be a distinct possibility, especially when looking at the transfer business both Liverpool & Tottenham have done.
Has the Premier League gained a better player?
The Premier League’s best player last season, Gareth Bale departed to Madrid on Sunday. A huge loss, however the league may have gained a better player in Mesut Ozil. The German midfielder has produced more on the biggest stage than Gareth Bale and arguably, there isn’t much difference in their technical ability. Tottenham fans may be pulling their hair out if he makes the PFA Player of the Year shortlist.
Is there still too much Messi reliance?
Lionel Messi was at again, another hat-trick saw Barcelona defeat Valencia 3-2 at the Mestalla. Barca had raced into a 3-0 lead before Helder Postiga scored two late second half goals. Neymar didn’t produce what might have been expected of him and it is reasonable to say without Messi, Barca may have lost in Valencia.
