Reported Arsenal target Samuel Chukwueze is a “footballer with great quality”, according to Unai Emery.
The Nigeria international has been linked with the Gunners on a number of occasions, with speculation once again resurfacing ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to La Razon, Arsenal, Everton and West Ham are currently interested in Chukwueze’s services, but face competition from long-time admirers Atletico Madrid.
Admittedly, the 21-year-old hasn’t had the best of seasons, with just four goals and seven assists to his name from 36 appearances in all competitions.
Last week, Chukwueze ended his La Liga goal drought, which stretched back to November, with a brace in last Sunday’s 5-1 hammering of Levante.
Emery was full of praise for Chukwueze’s talent and quality, but he wants the versatile forward to work more on his finishing.
“He’s a very young player who has to find consistency,” the former Arsenal boss told the Villarreal media team. “We need to take steps forward with him and be demanding.
“He’s a footballer with great quality. He has a lot of talent, but he needs to improve in front of goal. Today he put in a great performance and managed to score.”
Chukwueze is a high-calibre player, a dazzling winger with an eye for goal who loves nothing more than cutting inside from the right onto his favoured left foot before lining up shots.
That said, he has been well below his usual standards this season, but with a bit of work he can get back to his best before long – the class is there.
