West Ham United ace Michail Antonio was lauded by supporters from all clubs for his superb post-match interview on Saturday.

A seemingly harsh penalty allowed United to take the lead after Felipe Anderson had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside.

And in the second half, West Ham had more of the ball and looked the likelier team to make it 2-1, with substitute Antonio putting in an inspired display.

Afterwards, Antonio spoke from the heart about the evening’s events.

He told BT Sport: “I don’t know what to say – it was an unbelievable team performance. We can’t take anything away from our overall performance today, we had the fight, we had the grit, just didn’t get the points.

When asked about the game’s controversies, Antonio stopped short of being critical. He added: “The referees are only human. I was on the bench and went and had a look at it – the offside, he was onside but it was a foot. You can’t really fault him for that.

“For the penalty there was a connection, there was contact. So it could be a pen, you could call it soft but it’s just one of those things – they’re only human.”

Fans react

Antonio may have been forgiven for venting with his team having undoubtedly been hard done by, but he came in for huge praise from fans for the respectful way in which he spoke:
