Folarin Balogun has posted on Instagram after helping Arsenal’s Under-21 side beat Gillingham following a penalty shootout in the EFL Trophy Group J clash – and plenty have responded, including Leeds star Sam Greenwood.
New York-born Balogun, 19, started and captained Arsenal’s Under-21 side fresh from making his first-team debut for The Gunners as a substitute during a 3-0 Europa League win over Irish outfit Dundalk, in which he played 16 minutes.
The Gunners looked nailed on to secure a victory, given the strength of the side they fielded. The returning Calum Chambers partnered £27million signing William Saliba in defence, while Matt Macey started in goal.
Summer signing Nicolai Moller partnered Emile Smith-Rowe in attacking midfield – but it was Catalin Cirjan that put Arsenal ahead after just six minutes. Balogun posted on Instagram after the penalty-shootout win.

Arsenal could not build on boasting 68% possession or their lead, as Gunners loanee Trae Coyle equalised for Gillingham. But Arsenal progressed into the last 16 of the competition, after winning 4-2 in the shootout.
His Arsenal teammates responded to his post, including the likes of Tyreece John-Jules, Jordan McEneff and Ben Cottrell – as did Greenwood, who left Arsenal for £3million (Sun) to join Leeds United in the summer window.
