Don’t go nuts with instructions

How many managers do you think send their teams out with about eighteen team instructions? None probably.

How long would that team talk take? “oh and pass short, be aggressive, win the ball back quickly, play quickly, do as I say, don’t dive in etc etc etc.” I’m only about six instructions in and I’m bored.

Pick your mentality, look at what it does by default and add instructions as required. Pick only a few team instructions to get started, you can add ideas in future.

I’ve used as few as one and as many as seven on this version. It just depends on what you think is important.

I usually start with a couple to see how it affects what I want to see. You’re a new manager coming into a club, think about that in real life and how long it takes a manager to get his team playing his way.
