Florian Wirtz is still waiting to get firing at Liverpool since his £116m signing, but he has been impressed with the contributions of another arrival over the summer.
Wirtz missed a glorious chance at Crystal Palace this weekend as Liverpool went on to lose their first game of the season, ending their 100% record and allowing Arsenal to move to within two points at the top of the Premier League.
The German international hasn’t yet scored for his new club, with a sole assist coming in the Community Shield in August, and he was dropped to the bench against Everton last week.

However, Wirtz has revealed how impressed he has been with fellow summer arrival Jeremie Frimpong, who has looked lively when he has played either side of an unfortunate injury.
Florian Wirtz says Jeremie Frimpong can change a game with a single action for Liverpool
Taking part in a video for Liverpool club media alongside Frimpong, Wirtz was discussing the full-back’s best attributes.
“His speed. And with that, he can always change, in every moment of the game, he can change the game with one action,” said Wirtz.
“Which is another attribute – he can always change the game – and his desire to win as well.”
Frimpong missed two key games for Liverpool before the September international break, but has returned to start against Atletico Madrid and Southampton – although he was on the bench against Everton and Crystal Palace.
Florian Wirtz admits he would have preferred a different shirt number at Liverpool before he took the number seven
In another answer, Wirtz admitted that his preference would have been to wear the number ten shirt at Liverpool, like he wore at Bayer Leverkusen in his final two seasons at the club.

I’m really happy with the number,” he said. “My favourite number is normally number 10. But there’s one good player who wears it here.
“So this was no option for me, but I’m proud also to wear it now. The number 7, because of the players who wear it at the club before me.”
Alexis Mac Allister wears number ten for Liverpool having taken the iconic number when he signed in 2023. Number seven was previously worn by Luis Diaz at Anfield, with James Milner and Luis Suarez other recent wearers.
