Jorge Jesus, whose Flamengo side were beaten by Liverpool in the Club World Cup last month, has called Jordan Henderson the best player in the world in his position.

He told CMTV, via the Daily Mirror, of his admiration for Henderson, who has had his fair share of critics during his spell at Anfield.

Jesus said: “Henderson is the best midfielder in the world in his position. [Jurgen Klopp] never sacks him, but the two offensive midfielders, [Naby] Keita and [Georginio] Wijnaldum, sometimes are replaced. The others players are always the same.”

The Reds saw off Flamengo 1-0 to scoop the trophy in Doha last month, the third piece of silverware Henderson lifted within six months.

TBR’s View – Henderson finally beginning to get the credit he deserves

Henderson has had to prove the doubters wrong over and over during his career but now he is lifting trophies in the best side in England, he is beginning to get credit.

Klopp is under no illusions over how important Henderson is to his plans and Jesus clearly acknowledged it too, in watching the Reds up close.

Henderson looks all set to get his hands on the Premier League crown this season and will likely top that off by being a key part of England’s Euro 2020 plans, with more silverware in his sights.
