Moussa Dembélé impresses (again)

Brendon Rodgers’ first act as Celtic manager was to sign striker Moussa Dembélé from Fulham and the young Frenchman has certainly hit the ground running at Parkhead. The 20-year-old has already hit double figures this season for the Scottish Champions, including a hat-trick in against Rangers in the Old Firm derby earlier this month, and he added to that tally on Wednesday night by netting a brace against Manchester City.

Dembélé possesses the all of the generic attributes to become a striking sensation; power, pace, technical ability and that goal scoring instinct inside the eighteen-yard box, all of which were on show in mid-week. However, there is still plenty for the striker to work on, demonstrated when he lost possession for Raheem Sterling’s equaliser, but the signs are that Dembélé could become something special in the future.

Manchester City are still a dominant force

An away draw in the Champions League is always a positive result and, despite some flaws in their performance, Manchester City demonstrated character and resilience to come from behind and equalise on three separate occasions.

On the domestic front, Pep Guardiola’s charges will undoubtedly be challenging on all fronts, however, Europe will be a different, more difficult challenge to grasp. City face Barcelona in back to back Champions League fixtures over the coming months and these matches will undoubtedly act as a barometer of where the club stands in the hierarchy of world football. City are undoubtedly a dominant domestic force, the task for Guardiola is to create a team that are genuine Champions League contenders.

Manchester City and Barcelona will undoubtedly qualify as the top two teams in Group C, although the forthcoming fixtures will have a much greater significance, meanwhile Celtic and Borussia Mönchengladbach will have to shoot it out for a place in the Europa League.
