Every summer is the same for Gunners fans, months of speculation linking them to some of the best forwards in world football, only ending in disappointment as they end up stuck with Olivier Giroud.

With news incoming of Gonzalo Higuain’s imminent move to Juventus, he joins a long list of forwards including the likes of Karim Benzema and Luis Suarez, who have reportedly been close to a move to the Emirates but the move has never come off.

This summer feels different though, and after being beaten to the title by Leicester City last season, it seems likely that Wenger may finally splash out and bring in a big name forward to lead the line, in place of Olivier Giroud.

With the French forward being linked with a move to replace Higuain at Napoli, it could well be that Wenger is left with no choice but to bring in a big name to help fire the Gunners towards what would be their first title in over a decade.

Over the next few pages, here are five of Europe’s best strikers who could be seen in the red and white or Arsenal by the end of this summer’s transfer window…

Romelu Lukaku

Some rumours have suggested that the Gunners could be set to rival Chelsea for the signature of Everton’s Belgian striker. With the Blues said to be demanding £75 million for the striker, it may well price the Stamford Bridge side out of a move given their other targets, but it could be the big money move that Arsenal have been saving for.

The forward scored 25 goals last season for a mid table side, and would undoubtedly bring strength and power to the Arsenal frontline. With a steely side that Arsenal have been lacking in recent years, he could well be the man to transform this Arsenal side into one that can win titles, rather than just fighting for them.

Lukaku’s style may not particularly fit in with Wenger’s preferred style of play, but given the players they have they would certainly be able to provide the supply that Lukaku needs to bring goals, and at 23 year of age, the Belgian still has plenty of time to learn and adapt to a new style before he reaches his full potential.
