Five Premier League clubs that could sign Marco Asensio this summer
Real Madrid star Marco Asensio could be the subject of Premier League interest this summer if Los Blancos decide to cash in on the Spain international.
The 26-year-old has one year left to run on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, and while the Champions League holders would prefer the talented left-footer to sign a new deal, they are prepared to part ways with the forward this summer, according to GOAL.
Asensio is only likely to extend his stay in the Spanish capital if he is given assurances by Carlo Ancelotti that he’ll be a regular in the Italian’s starting line-up, especially with the World Cup looming and competition for places in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad as fierce as ever.
The 27-time Spain international scored 12 goals this season, but he was an unused substitute in the Champions League final with Federico Valverde preferred on Madrid’s right over the former Mallorca man.
The three-time Champions League winner has scored 49 goals and provided 24 assists from 235 matches for Real Madrid.
And with uncertainty surrounding the forward’s future, TBR takes a look at five Premier League clubs that could sign Marco Asensio this summer.

While Erik ten Hag will have bigger issues to resolve, the departure of Juan Mata and the ongoing unavailability of Mason Greenwood means that Manchester United’s attack lacks a left-footed star.
Talented academy graduates Hannibal Mejbri, Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho will be hoping to form a key part of Ten Hag’s rebuild at Old Trafford, but having Asensio cutting in from the right-hand side could be an appealing option for the former Ajax boss.
Although Ten Hag would likely want Ajax star Antony to ideally be United’s first choice right-sided forward, Asensio played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo during their time together at Real Madrid, and the Portuguese legend could well endorse a potential pursuit of Madrid’s number 11.
While Chelsea’s focus looks to be fixated on signing Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer when the Frenchman’s contract at Barcelona expires at the end of this month, Asensio would be a rather classy Plan-B if the Dembele move fell through.
Thomas Tuchel doesn’t seem to be entirely convinced by the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Romelu Lukaku, and with Todd Boehly happy to splash the cash – there could even be room for both Asensio and Dembele at Stamford Bridge.
With Liverpool seemingly focused on bringing in Darwin Nunez to replace Sadio Mane who looks Bayern Munich-bound, Mohamed Salah’s contract continues to tick down.
The Egyptian’s deal at Anfield expires next summer and while Liverpool fans will be hoping an agreement is reached, which sees the former Roma man extend his stay on Merseyside, signing Asensio would be an indicator that Jurgen Klopp is planning for life without Liverpool’s number 11.
Following in Salah’s footsteps and producing similar numbers would be an impossible task for Asensio, but at the age of 26 he’s entering his prime years and playing under such a charismatic man manager like Klopp could help propel the Spaniard to a new level.
Of all the Premier League clubs that could sign Marco Asensio this summer – Arsenal are probably going to be most likely suitors.
Real Madrid have asked to be updated on the contract situation of Bukayo Saka at Arsenal going into the summer transfer window.
90min say that Los Blancos have joined the team they beat in the final of this season’s Champions League, Liverpool, and Manchester City in the race for Saka.
The England star is entering the final 12 months of his contract but Arsenal have a one-year extension which they are going to trigger.
While Arsenal fans wouldn’t want to lose Saka in order for Asensio to arrive at the Emirates – the possibility of a swap deal cannot be ruled out.
Although the Magpies don’t have European football to lure Asensio – the opportunity to become the biggest name to arrive on Tyneside since PIFs lucrative takeover could be a tantalising proposition for the Spaniard.
Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes made the move when Eddie Howe’s were engulfed in a relegation dogfight.
Signing Asensio would be a massive statement of intent by the Toon Army and with him on the right and Allan Saint-Maximin on the left, several Premier League full-backs could find themselves tied in knots.
