Five players to watch in the Championship this season

Kortney Hause – Wolves

A domineering, composed center-back for Wolves and England’s triumphant Toulon team, Hause has all the tools to dominate England’s second tier. Alongside Dominic Iorfa, a mountainous totem of a right-back, Wolves have a defensive backbone of Premier League potential. Hause, a left-footed center-half, has an array of athletic gifts that will prepare him for both the grit of the Football League and the zip of the top tier.

Walter Zenga could do worse than pair Hause and Iorfa as a center-back tandem, Iorfa a perfect long-term right-sided partner to Hause. The pair are over 1.88 meters, and at 21 have plenty of time to mature physically and technically. The only concern over Iorfa and Hause is a lack of experience, as demonstrated by Iorfa’s red-card in Wolves’ opener against Rotherham. Can these two cope with the psychological demands of a grueling Championship fixture list? One could argue Hause looks the more mature of the two, displaying level-headedness and composure in England’s youth sides. If he can maintain that level across a campaign, there will be no shortage of top-flight suitors for the West Ham academy product.
