Five players that Spurs need to sign this summer

Mauricio Pochettino is no slacker, and has moved fast in this summer transfer window, already signing Austrian Kevin Wimmer. The central-defender represents long term investment at 22 years of age, but he has already progressed through the second divisions in Austria and Germany, and then enjoyed two successful seasons in the Bundesliga.

A critique of Spurs last season was that they leaked too many goals down the middle, lacking a strong spine. Pochettino struggled to find a consistent centre-back pairing, with sub-standard performances from Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul and even the imperious Jan Vertonghen seemingly shaky and nervous.

Wimmer goes a long way towards plugging this hole in central defence. For all intents and purposes a good signing, however this must be just the beginning of Spurs’ shopping spree. Here are five more players that Spurs should sign if they are going to mount a serious and real challenge to the top four of the Premier League.
