The most unlikely option, Unzue is Luis Enrique’s recommendation for the role. Unlike when Tito Villanova replaced Pep Guardiola in what the Manchester City boss felt was a betrayal at the time as the pair had not even discussed the possibility, Enrique has been floating the idea for a while now.

His right hand man over the past few seasons, Unzue has played a key role in building this Barcelona side into a success story and has taken a lot of the credit for the coaching and key tactical decisions.

However, reports of a number of rows between staff and players would suggest that Unzue may not be the wisest appointment, whilst he is likely to carry across many of Enrique’s mistakes in his tactical unflexibility and it is never easy to predict how a number two will adapt to being the main man.
