Five Leeds players who could make their debuts before the World Cup

Leeds United may be one side who benefit from the postponement of a couple of their games with Jesse Marsch already dealing with a number of injuries this season.

The Whites’ squad has improved over the summer. But there is still the potential for his ranks to be stretched as games come thick and fast ahead of the World Cup.

And with that, there may be scope for a few new names to emerge into the fold. So ahead of the international break, here are five players who may well be in contention for a debut before everyone switches their focus to Qatar…

Wilfried Gnonto

The most likely player to make their Leeds debut will surely be Wilfried Gnonto. The Italy international is not yet ready for Premier League football. But he definitely has the attributes to make an impact if he gets the chance. Joe Gelhardt shared how he was impressed by his pace. His arrival helped spare some of the Leeds blushes after a poor deadline day.

Leeds do not have huge depth in the middle of the park. Thankfully, Marc Roca and Tyler Adams have proved to be a brilliant partnership. Waiting in the wings is £5 million signing Darko Gyabi, and the early signs suggest that the former Manchester City starlet is a special talent.

Archie Gray

Marsch made a big statement by taking Archie Gray on Leeds’ pre-season tour to Australia. And the 16-year-old did not look out of place when given a chance. He will surely make his senior debut at some stage this term. And it may well have the potential to prove a real ‘I was there’ moment for supporters.

Sonny Perkins

The one player on this list with a Premier League debut under his belt, Sonny Perkins has been superb for the under-21s since his summer switch from West Ham. Like Sam Greenwood, the 18-year-old is extremely versatile. And that will only help his cause.

Mateo Joseph

Before Leeds had two games postponed, there was real concern about the club’s striker options. Rodrigo had been sidelined with a shoulder injury and Patrick Bamford is still building up his fitness. That presented an opportunity to Joe Gelhardt, but it may have also left Mateo Joseph on alert. The 18-year-old has been in great form for the under-21s. So he may have an outside chance of featuring at some stage.
