100%- 3 – 7 – percentage of tackles won, amount of interceptions, and amount of clearances made by Ragnar Klavan
The Estonian defender earned BBC Sport’s man-of-the-match award for his display against Everton, and the summer signing from Augsburg was excellent in quelling the Toffees’ attacking threat, as shown by his statistics. Part of restricting Everton to a single shot on target and protecting goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was down to his awareness and alert nature both in and around his penalty area. He went simple when he had to, clearing the ball out, and away from the threat of Romelu Lukaku, but also chipped in with a clever interception along the ground on the edge of his own six-yard box in the first-half.
His two tackles came against Enner Valencia, and the position of both of them, out on the left-wing and midway inside his own half, showed his willingness to provide cover and venture forward from the edge of his box despite the threat of Valencia and Lukaku on the break.
Part of Everton’s inability to provide service to forward players was down to Liverpool’s defensive performance, but Klavan in particular stood out.
