Jetro Willems

Current Club: PSV

Position: Left Back

Reported fee: £7million

After suffering a knee injury in the summer, Willems is yet to make an appearance for PSV however that has not stopped Newcastle ear marking the player as a possible signing. Having signed Simon Poulsen as his replacement in the summer, the left back may struggle to get back into the PSV first team immediately, however he is young enough to comeback in the future. Having got 13 International caps for Holland to date, Willems is the youngest player to play in the European Championships after being selected by Bert van Marwijk for his squad in 2012 and starting in the first game against Denmark, at 18 years and 71 days of age.

Newcastle’s problems at left back have been well documented this season with both Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara struggling for form. With a recent successful history of buying Dutch players, Siem de Jong aside, chief scout Graham Carr could delve back into that market for a player that fits Mike Ashley’s criteria, young and cheap enough for resale value.
