Central Midfielder – Ever Banega/Isco

Sevilla midfielder Banega reportedly impressed Manuel Pellegrini during the clubs recent clashes in the Champions League. His industry and range of passing would be a welcome addition to City’s midfield. There were certain character issues at his previous club Valencia including a bizarre incident during which he managed to run himself over with his own car. The 27-year-old Argentinian is out of contract in the summer, so he would be available at a cut-price fee, although he has been in talks recently about a contract extension. Nevertheless he would represent an upgrade on Fernando.

Isco would be the clubs dream signing. He has been linked with City during every transfer window since Pellegrini took charge and, until Zinedine Zidane’s recent elevation to the Real Madrid throne, it looked like a move that could materialise. However Rafa Benitez’s departure could see the 23-year-old stay in the Spanish capital, for the time being at least.
