Manchester United have the best defensive record in the league this season and yet they face an alarming lack of back-up options in the center of defence.

John Stones would be the obvious choice for most in this position. However, it is well known that Louis van Gaal prefers a left-right combination in the position.

As a result, Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte would be an excellent adition. The club is notoriously difficult to deal with, as the Red Devils found out while negotiating for Ander Herrera, but the French youngster is a player worth the trouble.

The 21-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Basque outfit’s starting eleven and has performed exceptionally well for the past two seasons.
