David Marshall
For most Evertonians, Jack Butland would have sat pretty high on their Everton Christmas wish list. A young English international, showing great potential and performing week in week out within the Premier League sounds very appealing. However, with a quoted price tag of £20M and Stoke’s unwillingness to sell, it seems like he won’t be going anywhere soon. However, with Howard’s rapid decline and Martinez’s unwillingness to pass the mantle to Joel, a goalkeeping replacement is required quickly.
Cardiff’s shot stopper, David Marshall, is the player that the Blues have apparently set their eye on this window. The 30 year old goalkeeper stood out in an otherwise underwhelming team within the Premier League last season. Now plying his trade within the Championship, Marshall may be tempted with a move back up the Leagues. One stumbling block to the move is the apparent £10m fee required to purchase the player. Expect to see the Toffee’s attempt to negotiate down.
